POSITION: CUSTOMS CONTROLLER (EXPORTS)

DIVISION:  JOHANNESBURG

PUPOSE OF THE JOB:

To build and maintain a high-performance operations organization to effectively achieve business objectives. This position operates at a service level.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To frame and submit all entries to customs for release
• To report any consignment stopped by SARS / customs to the supervisor within one hour
• Ensure that the shipments are custom cleared with correct tariff codes, incoterms, and currencies
• Ensure that high value (R50K and above), DA65 framing and application for SADC certificate to customs is done within 4 fours, follow ups done and comments inserted on Iskynet system if not yet released
• To inform supervisor in charge of any customs entries not submitted during the shift and the reasons
• And reprints to clients as per their request with 2 hours
• To file the SAD 500 and the release in the JICX/JIAF as per waybill details within 9 hours
• To send daily customs entries report to the supervisor in charge with the number of entries done, released and the stops if any. Copy the other shift supervisors as well
• To pre alert the receiving stations on time with road freight manifest and other required documents
• To ensure that the receiving stations have received all manifests and other documents for the release of the shipments from customs
• To handle client queries and provide stations with the acquittal documents when requested
• To escalate any problem with the customs systems or entries to the supervisor in charge and advise the relevant stations
• Assist clients with all customs related issues/ Data capturing and manifesting.
• To promote good customer relations by treating customers with respect, and being polite and helpful
• To comply with access control procedures and all company policies
• To be in possession of a code 10 driver licence
• To obey any reasonable instruction given by an immediate supervisor or person in authority  
• Carry out all duties in accordance with ISO procedures   
• Able to do RCG (Reporting of Conveyances of Goods) reporting to Customs (SARS)

• Good planning and organizing skills
• Ability to communicate at all levels and strong interpersonal skills
• Strong operational skills
• Computer literate (MS office at an advanced level)
• Strong housekeeping skills
• To make sure that all emails addressed to you are given undivided attention and ensure reply when necessary
• Familiarisation in DG
• Strong Customs knowledge
• Familiarisation in CAA

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:

• Matric / Grade 12.
• South African Citizen
• Experience of relevant post will be advantageous Min 3 export customs years’ experience
• Customs knowledge, customer services orientated
• Knowledge and understanding of custom regulations and tariff codes
• Geographical knowledge (National & International)
• Ability to work independently and under pressure
• Computer literate (MS office at an advanced level)
